Washington Fire Sprinkler Service
Sprinkler installation, confidence testing, and repairs across Washington, from our office and shop in Gig Harbor.
If you own, manage, or build a commercial, multi-family, or industrial building in Washington, we can design its fire sprinkler system, install it, and come back to test it every year after. Emerald Fire has been doing this work out of Gig Harbor since 1989.
Everything happens in-house. Our NICET III and IV designers draw the system, the pipe comes out of our own fabrication shop, and our own licensed fitters install it. No subcontractors. That’s carried us from the Chambers Bay project in University Place to aircraft hangars at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to Evergreen Elementary out on the Key Peninsula.
The part people don’t expect is how much the permit process changes from one place to the next. Your mailing address doesn’t decide who reviews the job; the parcel does. Gig Harbor city limits go to the City, the rest of the peninsula goes to Pierce County, and Tacoma, Lakewood, and Puyallup each have their own fire authority. We figure out where the package goes before anything is submitted.

Common questions about fire sprinklers in Washington
Do you only work in Gig Harbor and Pierce County?
No. Gig Harbor is where our office and shop are, and Pierce County is where we do a lot of our work, but we take on projects across Washington. Tell us where the building is and we’ll let you know how we’d schedule it.
Are you licensed in Washington?
Yes. Our Washington contractor registration is EMERAFL980MR, and we hold the State Fire Marshal’s fire protection sprinkler contractor license for the systems we design and install.
What is a confidence test?
It’s what Washington calls the annual fire sprinkler inspection. The test follows NFPA 25, and the local fire authority expects a report afterward. Many of them now want it filed online through The Compliance Engine. We handle the filing as part of the inspection.
Which fire code applies to my project?
Washington is on the 2021 International Fire and Building Codes with state amendments, in effect since March 15, 2024. The 2024 editions are scheduled to take effect May 3, 2027, so anything permitted before then is designed to the 2021 set.
